SOME RECENT & FORTHCOMING EVENTS

ALL SOULS' DAY

In the Christian calendar the month of November begins with the great feast of ALL SAINTS' (1st.), when we thank God for all His saints, known and unknown to us; and it is immediately followed by ALL SOULS' DAY (2nd.) when all departed souls are remembered in prayer.
It is a tradition of the Church that departed souls are remembered by name in public worship at this time. Many parishioners have come to value this practice and so we shall be doing it at the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at St.Mary's Parish Church on -
SUNDAY, 2nd. NOVEMBER at 11.00am
If you would like some departed souls (perhaps relatives or friends) to be remembered at this service please write their names on the list on the table at the rear of church or send a note to the Vicar in time for the service on 2nd. November.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

The weather forecast for rain proved to be correct on Remembrance Sunday (9th. November this year) but it did not deter a record turnout for our Service of Remembrance and it was a case of ‘standing-room only’ at St. Mary’s Parish Church. It is good to see more and more young people joining us for this important commemoration. Following the service we marched behind the band of 2193 (Prestatyn) Squadron of the ATC to the War Memorial in Parliament Street for the laying of the poppy wreathes. A cheque for £250 has been sent to the British Legion Poppy Appeal from the collection in church.

ANNUAL VESTRY MEETING

The St. Mary's Parish Church Annual Vestry Meeting was held on Sunday, 27th. April. The Annual Report of the work of the last twelve months, copies of which had been available in the weeks leading up to the meeting, was presented and those attending had the opportunity to ask questions of the officers. Major concerns were the very urgent need for increased giving by our congregations to meet our ever-increasing costs and the apparent ’stalemate’ over the Heritage Lottery Fund grant for restoration of St. Mary’s Parish Church. The Vicar thanked everyone for all their efforts during a very challenging 2007.

The following elections were made for 2008/2009;-

CHURCHWARDENS - Mrs. Nora Williams & Mr. Roy Davies.
PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCILLORS - The Churchwardens, Mrs. Joanne Balmer, Mr. Ian Davidson, Mr. Reg. SIDESMEN - All the present members were re-elected.

PCC SECRETARY & VESTRY CLERK - Mr. Ian Davidson.
TREASURER - Mr. Glynne Jones.
TRI-ENNIAL ELECTIONS:

The Churchwardens and the members of the newly-elected Parochial Church Council will make their declarations during the 10.30am Family Eucharist on Sunday, 22nd. June.
